Coach VerBurg started his coaching career in 1998 where he began by helping out in numerous capacities ranging from shagging balls, keeping stats and assisting. He then expanded that knowledge while working the press box for Portage Central and watching and learning from some of the greats like Pat Norman (current PC Coach) and BJ Snow (UCLA Head Coach Women’s Soccer). He currently holds a USSF E license and has attended one of Anson Dorrance's North Carolina coaches’ clinics.
He took over the reins as head JV coach for Portage Central in 2010 and has taking the team to a 31-2-3 record. Over the past five years his PSC teams have either won the championship or been runner up to at least 1 tournament every season, including winning the championship in the 2010 and again in the 2011 Portage Classic.
