The Portage Soccer Complex officially opened for game play in May of 2002. This 37-acre complex has nine full-sized fields and is considered one of the premier complexes in the state. It is located at 4422 Bishop Road in Portage, Michigan. Centrally located between some of the larger soccer hubs in the region, it is just 145 from Chicago, Illinois; 120 miles from Fort Wayne, Indiana; and 141 miles from Detroit, Michigan. It is also home to the Portage Classic Tournament, which takes place in June each year and the Portage Celery Cup in August.
The complex is the result of a collaborative effort with our partners, the City of Portage, AYSO Region 74 and The United Soccer Foundation. The United Soccer Foundation is a nonprofit group of soccer volunteers dedicated to enhancing youth and adult soccer in the Kalamazoo area. The USF is governed by a Board of 13 members, including representatives from River Oaks Soccer Club, AYSO 212, Portage Classic Tournament, Sting Soccer Club, Portage AYSO 74, and the Portage Soccer Club.
The complex could not have evolved into the cornerstone of the community that it has without the countless supporters who continue to volunteer their services to our organization. A special thanks to Gordon Groves and Cornerstone Construction Management. Gordon and his firm donated their services as general contractor for this project. Not only was their donation a significant cost savings for us but their expertise was invaluable.
