2021 Portage Classic Tournament

First and foremost we hope that you are all safe and healthy,

After lengthy deliberation, the Portage Soccer Club has decided to cancel the 35th annual Portage Soccer Classic. All registered teams will receive a 100% refund. The Portage Classic Committee did not come to this decision lightly or easily. However, after reviewing the current number of COVID case rates, the sporting-event safety protocols required in the state of Michigan, and how these factors would impact our club's dual commitment to providing a fun, competitive tournament that still meets the standards of our previous tournaments; there was only one fair decision for all parties involved. This was a difficult decision to make, but it is the right decision because ensuring the safety of and a positive tournament experience for players, families, referees, coaches, and volunteers is paramount to us.

Respectfully

PSC Soccer Classic Tournament Committee

The Portage Soccer Club, the largest nonprofit soccer club in southwestern Michigan, sponsors the Portage Soccer Classic.  The club and tournament are run by all volunteer committees. It utilizes 100% of all proceeds to be put back into the upkeep of the Portage Soccer Complex which is owned and operated by The Portage Soccer Club.  Thanks to previous years’ benefactors, this 37 acre complex includes nine beautiful full size fields which are considered to be one of the nicest in the state.

We have been privileged to have hosted some great players over the years which have developed skills to achieve honors at high school, college, state and beyond.  Portage Soccer Club alumni include:

  • BJ Snow, two time NCAA Champion (Indiana), former Head Coach UCLA Women’s Soccer, former US U17 Women’s National Team Coach and currently on the Women’s National Team Staff

  • Jacob Peterson, NCAA Champion (Indiana) formerly with MLS Atlanta United, Sporting Kansas City, San Jose Earthquakes, Toronto FC, and Colorado Rapids

  • Eric Alexander, MLS FC Cincinnati, formerly with Houston Dynamo, Montreal Impact, New York Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, and FC Dallas. Eric as a Portage Central High School senior was named Gatorade Player of the Year.

  • Lindsay Tarpley, two time Olympic Gold Medalist; WPS Boston Breakers

  • Paige Wester, Portage Central 2009 Miss Michigan Soccer.

All games will be played at the Portage Soccer Complex (the premier nine field facility in Southwest Michigan!), the adjoining fields at SoccerZone, and the Portage Soccer Club practice facility located at Cox’s Dr. and Zylman Rd. (less than one mile away), so all of your games will be at convenient locations.  The Portage Soccer Complex has over 500 parking spaces plus additional parking available at nearby facilities.  Parking at the Portage Classic is free. There is no parking fee charged to our guests unlike many tournaments.  Click here for maps and directions to the fields.

If you need assistance during the tournament weekend, our Tournament Headquarters is located at the Portage Soccer Complex, near the concession stand.

If you have any questions regarding check-in instructions prior to the tournament, please feel free to contact our Tournament Director, Jay Hoffman.  He can be reached via email at jmhooffman@gmail.com.

We look forward to a wonderful weekend and ask everyone to let good sportsmanship prevail.
